Developer (Graduate) at Native Design

About Native
Native designs products that get made. Since 1997 we've worked across the US, Europe and Asia for the companies that take the object seriously: Bowers & Wilkins, Bang & Olufsen, Audi, Coloplast, Baxter, Bentley, HP and others we can't name yet. Along the way we've collected more international design awards than any independent studio in Europe.

Job Description
We are seeking a recent graduate to join us on a 6-month full-time contract, with a view to extending or making the role permanent, to help us build ambitious physical-digital products, explore and prototype emerging technologies, and integrate AI into a wide range of experiences. We build right across the stack - from front-end and back-end development to connected devices and embedded platforms.  We’re not expecting you to know everything from day one, but you’ll need to be flexible, learn quickly and be extremely comfortable leaping across frameworks, languages and platforms.

You’ll work closely with designers, design engineers, researchers, and clients to translate compelling concepts into working prototypes and production-ready software, creating rich product experiences for brands across consumer tech, healthcare, life sciences, wellness, automotive, and more.

You’ll have the freedom to learn constantly and solve problems that break new ground, while delivering to a high standard of quality. Expect rapid iteration, thoughtful engineering trade-offs, and support from a multidisciplinary team as you grow your craft and help us push ideas from demo to deployment.

Oh, and you'll make work that pushes boundaries and challenges perceptions - always aiming to make a real impact.

Key Responsibilities

Creative Delivery

• Contribute to the evolution of our AI-centric and collaborative approach
• Translate designs into well-structured, high-quality software
• Ensure high-quality, adaptable solutions - comfortable with rapid iteration and change
• Work across multiple projects for timely, high-quality delivery

• Explore, prototype, and validate new concepts - combining software, electronics, and embedded platforms
• Support the integration of AI/ML into prototypes and products (with guidance as needed)
• Support software development for hardware, including custom electronics, sensor data, and connectivity
• Work with the team to meet Native and (relevant) regulatory expectations for quality, safety, scalability, and security

• Computer Science or other significant programming based education
• Any professional or hobbyist experience highly desirable
• Flexible across languages, environments, and frameworks - for instance, including Angular/React, HTML5, CSS, Node.js, Python, JavaScript, Rust, and SQL
• Desirable to have experience with C++, C#
• Experience integrating and implementing AI/ML models and platforms
• A portfolio demonstrating the successful delivery of highly rich, integrated physical-digital product experiences
• Strong communication and collaborative skills, comfortable in a fast-paced, creative design environment
• Must be ready to work on-site at our Shoreditch studio.

Here’s an idea of the sort of Developer we hope is reading this:

• Full stack: You’re comfortable working across front end and back end, and you can integrate the two with support from the team
• Innovative: You enjoy building across platforms, experimenting with AI, integrating third-party services, and learning what it takes to connect hardware and cloud services
• Curious: You see opportunities where others don't. If you open doors, push buttons, and hop over gates for adventure's sake, you're our kind of developer.
• Collaborative: Our in-house digital teams work closely with our researchers, design engineers, and industrial designers, so you'll need to be London-based and ready to bring your magic to our Shoreditch studio where the real alchemy happens.
• Practical: You’re comfortable with standard digital platforms and can deliver high quality under pressure and to tight timescales.
• Adaptable: We're not afraid to kill an idea. Sometimes, we build it, test it, and start again. If this dynamism excites you, you'll make the work of your life at Native.
• Fun: We're not asking for stand-up comedy routines, but a passion for what you do is essential. We believe the best creatives genuinely enjoy their work.

Here's what you can expect from us:

• Annual Leave: 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays (pro rata). We actively encourage you to take your leave.
• Enhanced Parental Leave: Enhanced maternity and paternity pay.
• Private Healthcare: Bupa private medical insurance, including 24/7 GP access, mental health support, and specialist care. A health and wellness cashback plan.
• Wellbeing & Fitness :40% discount across the Hussle Gym network. Access to YuLife wellbeing and fitness benefits, including mindfulness resources, company-wide challenges and cash rewards.
• Professional Development: Opportunities for learning and development, access to industry talks, exhibitions, and visiting speakers.
• Studio Culture: Regular company events and studio activities throughout the year.
• Location: Our Shoreditch studio is well connected and surrounded by a vibrant design and technology community.
• Independent Studio: Native has operated independently in East London for over twenty years. We are committed to long-term thinking, craft, and delivering thoughtful innovation without compromise.
